I work often in B&W and enjoy the opportunity to create works that reflect the area I live in specifically the northern reaches of the Driftless Area and the upper Mississippi River Valley. Through still life and portrait paintings, I center queer, non-binary ideas, explore pleasure and joy, and embrace play through color and mark-making.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Paint has been my medium throughout my life. Bold color and pattern is my signature. My paintings embrace color and are bold. When placed upon the wall they are like functional creativity. My process is a play between intuitive and spontaneous. As I build a work, I let it speak to me. It requires trust in my own intuitive response and the ability to accept change though its creation. I enjoy the sense of discovery. In 2021, I created my first painting installation that is a a meditative corner piece invite the viewer to sit and be with. I very interested in continuing to explore scale and installation of these works within gallery space. How is the view affected by these type of environments and how does it affect their interaction with the art? These are questions I wonder about.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I have been self employed as a sculptor specializing in public art and teaching, since 2003. I am self taught, having studied metal casting by lost wax at a foundry beginning after college in 1989. I then (and still) worked as a patina artist and public art maintenance technician. My degree is in Classics. When designing projects for art learners, I use a holistic method and I have a deep appreciation for historical context. With my art I celebrate natural resources as life sustaining forces. My materials pallet includes solar energy, in the forms of sunlight, electricity, plants and sugar. In my projects with art learners, I stress themes of strength in diversity, stewardship and sustainability. I aspire to provide a place for imagining a sustainable balance between human and non-human. I am currently studying herbal medicine, and I sell home made concept herbal candy (HerbPopz) and soaps. I also sell my small bronze work, and give art and nature camps, and candy making workshops, to young people in the summer time. I love sharing about medicinal plants, and photosynthesis with candy.</image:caption>

From there, a series of simple melodies connect these pillars of rhythm. He also finds solace in relief and intaglio printmaking. <image:caption>I make paintings, drawings and combine paintings that unite painting and sculpture. The work is process based and experimental in nature. Visually, the work focuses on composition, lines, layers, textures, and a variety of forms. For over 20 years, I have had an Essential Tremor (ET). ET is a genetically inherited progressive neurological disorder, causing uncontrollable shaking, primarily in my hands. Even with medication, the tremor reduces my ability to use small motor skills, limiting my ability to draw freehand and tightly control images. As my tremor progresses I rely less on small tools and more on larger tools that allow the simultaneous use of two hands, such as plastering trowels, and tools I make to guide my lines and the application of paints. I am also gradually exploring new materials for line and form making, including common, easily found materials such as cloth, paper, wire and wood. Conceptually, my work explores the conflict of chaos and control and the changing value of objects. I’m interested in things that are unchanging, permanent and universal. They have structure, simplicity, and control. I am equally interested in things that are random, intuitive, unplanned, and disordered, even chaotic. What we work so hard to control changes and becomes an unknown. What we value today we discard tomorrow. The content of my art is about these conflicts and changing values. The visual resolution of these conflicts results in the language of my paintings. Ultimately, I find beauty in the simple structure within our lives and I find joy in the unexpected possibilities that fate provides.</image:caption>

For 20 years I have been working and learning with watercolor, and more recently loving acrylics and mixed media. I paint a wide variety of subject matter including local scenery, flowers, animals, and abstract art, however, no matter the medium or subject, you will alway see my love of color.exploring acrylics, and palette knife and oil. <image:caption>I have been making jewelry since childhood, and my passion for creating and networking led me to launch my own jewelry line in 2003. Although my styles have evolved, my love of non-traditional materials has remained constant. My latest creations include styles I make with unusual gemstones, glass, and metal upcycled from decorative tins. With each new design, I strive to create beautiful jewelry that people want to wear every day.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Ann-Marie Rose - Ann-Marie Rose</image:title>
<image:caption>Ann-Marie Rose works in a variety of media including photography and digital imaging. But for this years studio tour she is focusing on her jewelry. Working in silver she fashions fantastical and imaginative lapel pins, pendants, bracelets and earrings from silver clay and silversmithing. Fired in high temperature kilns, the resulting pieces are either 100% silver or .925 sterling silver. With the addition of hand selected gemstones the pieces are as colorful as they are beautiful. Jewelry made from sterling are known for their durability. This means her pieces last and stay looking the best they possibly can well into the future. In addition Ann-Marie uses gemstones from specialty suppliers in Minnesota and all over the world. Emphasizing Ann-Marie’s knack for color, these vibrant eye-catching designs are perfect for everyday as well as special occasions. Ann-Marie has BS degree in Imaging with an emphasis in photography, printing and design from the University of Minnesota. She is the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for her digital imaging work and has exhibited in both group and one person shows.</image:caption>

In the calm times of the day, she paints her favorite subjects including food, friends, and places that ease the mind. There are some areas to walk around where you can view the backwaters, get a drink from the artesian spring or just sit by the water. Its nothing fancy, just a cool little place by the river.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Julie DeVetter - Julie DeVetter</image:title>
<image:caption>For potter Julie DeVetter, the creative process is a spiritual journey. Observation, education, traditions, personal growth, and experiences all merge to help her create ceramic forms that are unique and whole. Julie, who grew up near Whitewater State Park, has been creating artwork at the Anderson Center since 2006. She makes both functional and decorative ceramic pieces. Among her favorite pieces are non-functional teapots. "My teapots are about time, not tea," she says, recalling her growing up years when she would share "tea time" with her grandmother. Julie started making pottery in the mid-1980s at Rochester Community College, and also works in fabric -- creating "shibori" pieces of hand-dyed fabric, including quilts and framed pieces.</image:caption>

It also helped that she grew up in such a creative family. Seeing both her sisters’ paintings and crafts around the house inspired her to keep going with her own art! She mainly focuses on acrylic paintings and graphite sketches ranging from representational to abstract and everything in between! Inspired by her love of nature and seeing the world from her neurodivergent mind, she brings her emotions to life through her art!</image:caption>

<image:caption>During the Red Wing Area Studio Tour, stop by the Red Wing Arts Depot Gallery (418 Levee Street) to watch Greg Finnegan create plein air paintings in real time, and shop his recent paintings. I live in southeastern Minnesota, and have a degree in geophysics and worked in oil exploration in the 1980s. Then moved into computer programming. I was doing software tech support for international customers before retiring at the beginning of 2019. I'm married and have 3 grown children. I did some acrylic painting in college. I used to watch Bill Alexander, who taught Bob Ross, painting show on PBS in the 1980s. I always thought that someday I would take up oil painting, but work and family kept me busy. Through community ed, I took a still life painting class, and a plein air class. I would take six weeks to complete a painting, but the plein air class taught me to get the important details down and paint quickly. A few years ago I joined the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota (OPM) and went along on their painting trip to the Badlands and Black Hills in South Dakota. Since I retired, I've had time to do a lot more painting.</image:caption>

<image:caption>From 9 am-1 pm on Saturday, July 26, drop into the Red Wing Arts Clay & Creative Center for a hands-on, clay hand-building experience led by Kelly Connole! Whether you're new to working with clay or just want to explore your creativity in a relaxed setting, this is a great opportunity to get your hands messy and try something new. Do you have a story to tell, but words can’t quite capture your ideas? Visual language is a powerful way to communicate. In this workshop, Kelly will guide participants in using simple press molds to create intimate wall pieces in clay. All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary. Participants will have access to basic tools, creative guidance, and plenty of inspiration to bring their ideas to life through clay. Stay as long as your schedule allows. Kelly Connole is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Kelly Connole is a Professor of Art at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. She earned her MFA from San Francisco State University and her BFA from University of Montana. Her work combines the tactile nature of clay with images of memories and emotions addressing relationships within environments: natural and constructed, human and animal. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries across the country. She is the recipient of many awards including a McKnight Residency, a Jerome Project Grant, a Minnesota State Arts Board Grant, and McKnight Fellowships in 2014 and 2019.</image:caption>
