Julie DeVetter
For potter Julie DeVetter, the creative process is a spiritual journey. Observation, education, traditions, personal growth, and experiences all merge to help her create ceramic forms that are unique and whole. Julie, who grew up near Whitewater State Park, has been creating artwork at the Anderson Center since 2006. She makes both functional and decorative ceramic pieces. Among her favorite pieces are non-functional teapots. "My teapots are about time, not tea," she says, recalling her growing up years when she would share "tea time" with her grandmother. Julie started making pottery in the mid-1980s at Rochester Community College, and also works in fabric -- creating "shibori" pieces of hand-dyed fabric, including quilts and framed pieces.
