Gita Ghei
I have been self employed as a sculptor specializing in public art and teaching, since 2003. I am self taught, having studied metal casting by lost wax at a foundry beginning after college in 1989. I then (and still) worked as a patina artist and public art maintenance technician. My degree is in Classics. When designing projects for art learners, I use a holistic method and I have a deep appreciation for historical context. With my art I celebrate natural resources as life sustaining forces.
My materials pallet includes solar energy, in the forms of sunlight, electricity, plants and sugar. In my projects with art learners, I stress themes of strength in diversity, stewardship and sustainability. I aspire to provide a place for imagining a sustainable balance between human and non-human. I am currently studying herbal medicine, and I sell home made concept herbal candy (HerbPopz) and soaps. I also sell my small bronze work, and give art and nature camps, and candy making workshops, to young people in the summer time. I love sharing about medicinal plants, and photosynthesis with candy.
